You can usually find them outside, making little sand hills around the driveway, patio and in the garden. During the colder months they will show up in the basement area and even the upper floors. Pavement ants appear to be about 3mm in size with a brownish color. They are social insects and will be found in colonies traveling foraging for food and excavating their tunnels.

Pavement ants will develop from egg to adult anywhere from 35 to 65 days dependant on the temperature. They will go through a complete metamorphosis, (egg, larva, pupa, adult). The colonies are quite large at about 3000 to 4000 with more than one queen.

They look for sweet foods like sugars, honey and jams, as well as various types of proteins.

They can be found under concrete, inside walls, under driveways and along walls.
