Are bed bugs keeping you awake at night fearing that some little insect will be feeding on you while you sleep?

Bed Bugs are small wingless insects that feed upon the blood of warm blooded mammals.

We have the solution for bed bugs. A slip for your mattress will separate you from the bed bug infestation. By separating them from you (their food source) they eventually die from starvation.

In fact, we have posted a video that can show how easy the solution is to kill bed bugs.

The bed bug eggs are white and about 1 mm long, and almost impossible to see on most surfaces. The female bed bug lays about 200 eggs in her lifetime, at a rate of about 3 or 4 per day. The eggs have a sticky coating and are deposited in cracks and crevices, in mattresses, box springs and on bed frames. Clusters of 10-50 bed bug eggs can be found in cracks and crevices. Bed bug eggs hatch in 6 to 17 days.

A newly hatched bed bug nymph will feed as soon as a food source is available. A bed bug goes through five molts before it reaches full maturity as an adult. Each molt takes place after a blood feeding.

Adults usually live for around 10 to 12 months. but can live for a year or more. In a home Bed Bugs breeding temperature is between 21° to 28°C, so Bed Bugs can reproduce all year round.

Bed Bugs are usually introduced to an apartment, home or business by furniture or belongings. Bed Bugs often hide in mattresses but they can also survive in furniture. They will crawl and nest inside tiny crevices anywhere indoors, as long as there is a source of food (blood). Bed Bugs may get into a new home as stowaways when luggage and when furniture and bedding is moved into a new home, especially in the case of second-hand furniture.

Perhaps we should be careful when purchasing second hand furniture, and do a very careful visual inspection just to be safe in case any are present. Even vacant clean homes may have bed bugs. They can survive for many months without any food. Bed Bugs can also move from apartment to apartment through hollows in walls. As infestations grow larger, they can move from beds into other locations such as sofas and upholstered chairs. Bed Bug females may lay their eggs away from a heavy infestation to provide greater chance for survival.

Bed Bugs feed on their hosts while they are sleeping. The host supplies them with food, (blood) in a painless way, never knowing it is happening. While feeding they inject a small amount of saliva into the host’s skin. The more they feed on one particular host, over a period of several weeks, the more sensitized that host becomes to their saliva. Until eventually the host develops a mild to intense allergic response. People who have become sensitive to bed bug bites have lesions similar to mosquito or flea bites.

Most hosts will think they have been bitten by some insect, such as a mosquito, and never realize it was a Bed Bug.

They feed on blood and the most active time for a bed bug is just before sunrise; however, they will try to feed at any time of day or night if they are hungry enough. They will reach their host by crawling towards them, or climbing a wall and then across furniture until they feel the heat of the host. The Bed Bug is attracted to the host by both its warmth and the presence of C02 (carbon dioxide).

It pierces the skin of its host with two hollow tubes. One tube injects saliva which contains anesthetics, so that the host feels nothing, and anticoagulants, so that the blood flows out freely. The other tube sucks the blood in. The feeding takes about five minutes and then the Bed Bug returns to its hiding place. Bites are not noticeable by the host until at least a few minutes or longer. Hosts will also be aware of a bite after scratching it. Bed Bugs will feed every five to ten days. They can last for several months without feeding and if there is no food around they can become dormant for over a year.
