A mouse is a dusky gray in colour and it measures from 10 to 15 cm (4″ to 6″) overall, with large ears and a long tail. A rat usually is a dull brown colour and measures between 32 cm and 43 cm (12-1/2″ to 17″) from nose to tail. It has small, close-set ears, a blunt muzzle, and very sharp teeth.
